Dr James Bvirakare

Dr James Bvirakare is the director of Traralgon Polyclinic. He was born in Zimbabwe and graduated from University of Zimbabwe in 1993. He spent a few years in general practice and community health before emigrated to Australia to study at Melbourne University specializing in Epidemiology. He was briefly attached at the Victorian Infectious Reference Laboratory where he got introduced to viral respiratory infections. He took a position in Queensland Health where he worked in different roles including in emergency medicine and gained lifechanging experience on venomous creepy crawlies that inhabit this beautiful land.

In 2004, Dr James moved to Gippsland, a place he now calls home. He has spearheaded growth of general practice in Community Health service. He is passionate about rural health and General practice.

Dr. Kaushalie Jayawickrama

Dr. Kaushalie Jayawickrama is a General Practitioner at Traralgon Polyclinic. She graduated from medical school in Sri Lanka in 2015 and has gained broad clinical experience across a range of specialties, including internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, and emergency medicine.

After moving to Australia, Dr. Jayawickrama worked for more than two years in the Emergency Department of a major tertiary referral hospital in Newcastle, New South Wales. This experience provided her with extensive exposure to managing a wide variety of acute and complex medical conditions while further developing her skills in patient-centred care.

Dr. Jayawickrama later moved to Gippsland, where she continues to enjoy caring for individuals and families within the local community. She values building long-term relationships with her patients and providing compassionate, evidence-based healthcare tailored to their individual needs.

Her special interests include chronic disease management, women’s health, and child health. She is committed to promoting preventive healthcare and supporting patients through every stage of life with a warm, approachable, and holistic style of practice.
